Today ULAS has between 15 and 25 University Cadets and Bursars, some of whom have been accepted into the RAF as pilots and are being sponsored through their degree course. The Squadron also has up to 75 Volunteer Reserve members who are recruited from the many colleges of the University of London, University of Kent, University of Greenwich, City University, University of Hertfordshire, Brunel University and the University of Kingston, making it the largest of the University Air Squadrons. During each academic term, Thursday evening is devoted to training at THQ, but training and activities of all sorts take place during university vacation periods. These include a wide range of sporting and social activities including formal and informal social functions.

The Squadron has a long and honourable history which is recorded in its archives. Squadron loyalty remains strong and the Ex-Members' Association reaches all round the world. Among its many distinguished members is one from the original intake in 1935.
In 1974 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother graciously agreed to become the Squadron's Honorary Air Commodore, a position She held until September 1993 when HRH The Princess Royal assumed the role.
The Squadron goes from strength to strength, achieving its aim as defined by the Air Ministry in 1935, "To promote a serious interest in flying and its allied subjects among undergraduates".
