FLYING TRAINING

The Squadron's primary rôle is the provision of flying training. The course that ULAS provides is set out by the Squadron's HQ at RAFC Cranwell. The syllabus takes the student pilot through Effects of Controls, Straight and Level and Climbing and Descending to Stalling and Circuits. The initial aim is to get the student pilot to fly his First Solo (a very exciting flight!), but then to consolidate his circuit flying before progressing to Practice Forced Landings, Instrument Flying and Navigation. All these contribute to the requirements of a Private Pilot's Licence, but we will also teach aerobatics, low-level navigation or even formation if the student pilot has progressed far enough.

OTHER TRAINING

The staff of ULAS provide the framework and guidance for the training which members of the Squadron undergo during the average year. However there are some requirements of our members:

• Attend the Training Nights each Tuesday (during term time) at Town HQ on Brompton Road.
• Attend 10 days' consecutive training during the year, normally during the Summer and normally to include flying.

But there is some flexibility and if a member, or group of members, has an idea to provide themselves with training they may put it to the staff for approval and possible sponsorship.
